Word champions Germany beat Chile to lift their first ever FIFA Confederations Cup trophy. Russia prove to be a lucky place for the Germans who are gonna come here again next year for the World Cup.

This new looking German side proved out to be too much for the Chileans to handle. Germany kept their nerve and capitalized on the mistake by Marcelo Diaz to score the only goal of the game.

Germany as usual is a major force to be reckoned with in international football, and on the day they showed why. Lars Stindl was the hero of the game with his match winning goal.

Their were a lot of Chile supporters in the stadium and cries of “Fuerza Chi-le!” rained down before kickoff. The number of Chileans in the crowd had to make a long trip to Russia but they made it.

It would have been a dream for Chile to win this trophy and come out next year more optimistic, but now they only have hopes for the 2018 World Cup.

“We dominated, we played very well, we controlled the game, but football is the way it is… sometimes it’s not enough and accidents happen,” Chile boss Pizzi said after the match.

The Chileans looked dangerous from the beginning as their players created more chances. Charles Aranguiz, Eduardo Vargas, Arturo Vidal all had cracks at goal in the opening 20 minutes as the Germans struggled to get possession.

Alexis Sanchez also missed a few chances in the game. Soon after, Timo Werner capitalized on a mistake from Diaz and squared the ball past Bravo for Stindl to put it into the empty net.

Their were more chance for Germany to score another but Chile defended well. Their were tension on the ground and tempers flared. Bravo clashed with Joshua Kimmich who had a heated moment with Vidal, his Bayern teammate.

VAR did its job pretty well in the game as Werner was hit in the face by Jara, who was later shown a yellow card after the video replay.

“He hit him in the face,” Low said after the game. “You expect that to be a red, no?”

The tempers flared again and Vargas was shown a yellow for his protests. Their were substitutions later in the game but the outcome was well decided with the first goal.

Overall this was an intensely contested game with an outcome that most predicted.
