India complete ODI series whitewash over SL

India whitewash SL
India beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets yesterday in the fifth one-dayer to complete ODI series whitewash
India having already won the Test series 3-0 have now won the ODI series 5-0. Thanks to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s five wickets and Virat Kohli’s 30th ton that helped India secure a 6 wicket win in the fifth and final ODI.

Sri Lanka won the toss in the fifth ODI and decided to bat first. That was not a bad decision considering India did the same in the 4th one-dayer on this same venue, in which they amassed 375/5.

As has been the case in this one day series, Sri Lanka once again failed to get to a big score. In fact they have not even reached a 250.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5/42) bowled brilliantly and the Lankan batters surrendered easily. He was later adjudged man of the match.

Jasprit Bumrah was quite economical as well and got a couple of wickets. This took his tally of wickets in this series to 15. He was adjudged man of the series for this performance.

Only batsman to score fifties were Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews. Both of them had a 122 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Earlier Upul Tharanga gave them a quick start.

But in spite of all these, SL failed to capitalize on positives and messed up later. They set India a target of 239.

Now it was time for team India to create a bit of history. In the quest of runs, both the Indian openers got out early. Rahane and Rohit failed to impress.

Things normalized for the men in blue when Kohli and Manish Pandey came into bat. These two put up a 99 run partnership for third wicket.

But unfortunately Manish got out, this brought Kedar Jadhav in. Later, Kohli who got his 30th ODI century and Kedar got India home with a 108 run partnership.

MS Dhoni, who completed 100 ODI stumpings earlier and Virat finshed the chase as India completed a 5-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka. This is the biggest defeat of the islanders at their home.

India now go positively into the only T20I on Wednesday and try to win it.
