India vs New Zealand: Test squad announced, Prithvi Shaw returns; Mayank Agarwal replaces Rohit Sharma in ODIs

Mayank Agarwal will replace injured Rohit Sharma in the 3-match ODI series in New Zealand. While Prithvi Shaw will make a comeback to Tests as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the replacements and the Test squad on Tuesday.

Right-Arm pacer Navdeep Saini has also been included in the squad for red-ball cricket.

Ishant Sharma, although is currently recovering from an ankle injury has also been named in the 16-man Test squad but his inclusion will be subject to a fitness clearance.

Rohit Sharma who sustained a calf-injury in the fifth T20 International against New Zealand on Sunday ruled him out of the rest of the tour.

Shubman Gill, who recently scored a double ton against New Zealand A and a good 83 for India A in the first four-day fixture in Christchurch has been named in the Test squad.

On the other hand, left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav was left out of the squad altogether. As Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have been picked as frontline spinners.

Wriddhiman Saha have been included in the Test squad alongside Rishabh Pant who has also been included for the ODI’s.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah also returned to the Test squad after missing out the entire home season due to a stress fracture.

The 3-match ODI series begins in Hamilton on Wednesday.

India’s ODI squad: Virat Kohli (C), Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur.

The 2-match Test series begins in Wellington on February 21.
