Germany tops Group B
Germany defeated Cameroon 3-1 in the Confederations Cup yesterday
Germans have now topped Group B, thanks to their 3-1 win over Cameroon. Chile drew 1-1 with Australia in the other group game.

Kerem Demirbay scored the opening goal for Germany in the 48th minute. It was a brace from outside the box. Then the next two of Germany’s total three goals were scored by RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The goals were scored in the 66th and 81st minute respectively.

Vincent Aboubakar scored the only goal for Cameroon in the 78th minute. Germany now set up a semi-final with Mexico in Sochi.

Cameroon were controversially reduced to ten man just after the hour mark. Defender Ernest Mabouka was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Emre Can.

Colombian referee Wilmar Roldan initially sent of the wrong player, Sebastien Siani, on the advice of the video assistant referee before the decision was quickly corrected.

Germany missed a lot of chances in the first half. Cameroon began brightly but they weren’t able to trouble Marc-Andre ter Stegan.

Emre Can and Joshua Kimmich tried to score for the Germans early on but were off target. Cameroon on the other hand had their best chance in the first half when, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa hit a side-footed volley which was well saved by ter Stegen.

Germany came out with a lot of intent in the second half and scored early. Julian Draxler was brilliant and helped Demirbay score his goal.

Cameroon spurned decent chances on the other hand as substitute Ngamaleu failed to score. The Indomitable Lions further dealt a blow in 64th minute when their player was red carded. Later Werner made them pay by scoring two goals.

But Cameroon got a consolation goal back when Aboubakar scored in the 78th minute. Werner was denied his hat-trick by Ondoa.

Now the Germans will be eager to meet the Mexicans in the semis to get the better of them. They play them on the 29th of June at Sochi.
