Argentina eye win against world cup debutants Iceland in FIFA World Cup Group D

Argentina vs Iceland
Argentina will play Iceland on Saturday in their opening game of world cup 2018
Argentina and world cup debutants Iceland are set to lock horns on Saturday afternoon as both begin their world cup campaigns. Argentina go into this game as the favorites.

Kick-off : 4:00 PM (Local)

Venue : Spartak Stadium, Moscow

Argentina are strong favorites to lift this year’s world cup and Lionel Messi will be eager to register his name forever into the history books. They should get out of their group and with the first match against inexperienced Iceland you can expect them to carry the momentum forward.

Argentina had little to warm-up ahead of the world cup as they only played one game against the lowly Haiti. But still come the tournament and with the expectations they should live up to it. La Albiceleste last won the world cup in 1986.

On the other hand, Iceland have a fairy tale story to reach till here and didn’t they impress in the 2016 Euro’s. They are expected to have the same spirit as they take on opponents superior to them in their group.

The men from Northern Europe are ranked 22nd in the world as they take on Messi’s Argentina.

Team news and possible line-ups

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Ragnar Sigurdsson, Kari Arnason and Alfred Finnbogasson are Iceland’s key man and all are available and will play on Saturday.

As for Argentina, Sergio Romero will be unavailable as due to injury and Willy Caballero will start in his place. While Lionel Messi will captain them against the Nordic.

Iceland XI : Halldorsson, Saevarsson, Arnason, R. Sigurdsson, Gudmundsson, G. Sigurdsson, Hallfredsson, Bjarnason, Finnbogasson, Bodvarsson.

Argentina XI : Caballero, Mercado, Otamendi, Fazio, Tagliafico, Mascherano, Lo Celso, Di Maria, Salvio, Messi, Higuain.

Prediction

I expect Iceland to give their best but I still think they will fall short against mighty Argentina. I think Argentina wins this 2-0.
