UEFA Champions League 2020/21 – Rennes vs Chelsea match preview, predicted lineups

Rennes vs Chelsea
Chelsea will take on Rennes in the Champions League

Chelsea will take on Rennes on Tuesday in 2020/21 UEFA Champions League as the season moves ahead. The Blues start this game as the favourites.

Kick-off : 5:55 PM (Local)

Venue : Stade de la Route de Lorient, Rennes

Chelsea are so far unbeaten in their group. They will look to remain atop the group and qualify to the next round winning the group.

The Blues are currently on 7 points after three games and they haven’t conceded a goal till now. Their goal difference is +7.

They now play French outfit Rennes, another opportunity to get important points although the match is an away fixture. They will  have to play their brand of football.

Chelsea will most likely use the 4-3-3 system which they are most comfortable with. They will need to keep the ball in possession and play with an attacking mindset and try to keep a clean sheet.

On the other hand, Rennes are currently bottom of the group and are winless. They will look to win their first game of the campaign and what better than at home.

The Red and Blacks have just one point from 3 games and have a negative goal difference of -4.

Rennes know that Chelsea will be a tough game and they will have to be at their absolute best if they hope to compete against the English giants.

Julien Stephan will likely use the 4-2-3-1 system and defend properly. They need to be good in the final third and score first and then keep the pressure on Chelsea.

Team news and possible lineups

Dalbert and Daniele Rugani will both be unavailable for Rennes for the Chelsea game. While Adrien Truffert is available and likely play.

As for The Blues, Christian Pulisic will be unavailable as due to injury. Also Cesar Azpilicueta is available and will play.

Rennes XI : Gomis, Traore, Aguerd, Da Silva, Truffert, Nzonzi, Camavinga, Bourigeaud, Doku, Guirassy, Terrier.

Chelsea XI : Mendy, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Silva, Chilwell, Kante, Jorginho, Mount, Ziyech, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi.

Prediction

It’s difficult to call but I think Chelsea should have enough for Rennes on the day.
