England defeated New Zealand yesterday to lift the prestigious ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 trophy for the very first time in their history. England won by the number of boundaries hit after the matches ended in a tie and then in Super Over.

England will be proud of the fact that they won at home and becomes the third team in succession to lift the trophy being a host nation.

For New Zealand it will be utter disappointment as they are still to win an ICC tournament, so near yet so far.

Many people are arguing that the trophy should be shared but I think the laws of the game doesn’t give the consent to do so.

But teams were fabulous on the day and after a splendid performance and not being separated after 100 overs and even after the super over tie breaker, we shall say that both teams were equal perhaps.

Anyway coming to cricket, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat which was a good decision, if only they could have put more runs on the board. Still 241 was a good score on the wicket to give them a chance.

England were struggling at one time in the game in their chase but as champions do they did that stuff and put them back on track against a solid kiwi side.

In the end it came down to the Ben Stokes knock who was the hero but their came the twist. In the last over of the innings the drama happened.

Ben Stokes ran for the run needed but while making his way to the crease New Zealand fielder’s through struck his bat which led to extra runs for England. Tough the match later was a tie.

It’s a controversy but later Super Over too was a drama as it ended with a tie as well. Later which England were declared winners on number of boundary rule.

Joy for some and agony for some but still cricket was the winner as England lifted the trophy and celebrations went deep. Good end to a a memorable tournament. Next World Cup is in India in 2023.
