On Monday, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was named skipper of the Big Bash League Team of the Tournament by the 8 coaches of the tourney.

Maxwell’s side has qualified for the playoffs and will face Sydney Thunder for a place in the final. While Sydney Sixers have already made it to the final.

The eight BBL coaches have selected the competition’s first-ever official Team of the Tournament. Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers are heavily represented with three players apiece.

Marcus Stoinis has scored the most runs in the tournament with 612 runs and is included in the team alongside Jonathan Wells, the third-highest scorer with 478 runs.

Perth Scorchers wicket-keeper batsmen Josh Inglis will open alongside Stoinis, pushing Hobart’s Matthew Wade to number three.

Adelaide’s veteran seamer Peter Siddle will lead the bowling unit. While Scorchers captain and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will be at number six.

Tom Curran, Daniel Sams and Haris Rauf on the back of their performance in the tournament are the other pacers in the team. Sams is the leading wicket-taker with 30 wickets pushing Curran to second spot with 22.

Playing his first BBL, Rauf bagged 17 wickets in eight matches. Afghan Rashid Khan picked 19 wickets in 15 games and is the only full-time spinner in the team.

There are no players from the Brisbane Heat or Melbourne Renegades in the team.
